Password protect a PDF
Encrypt a PDF so only people with the password can open it, and decide whether it can be printed, copied or changed. Since everything happens on your device, neither the document nor the password travels over the internet.
Free, no sign-up and no watermark. It opens in your browser.
What it does
Require a password to open it (AES-256 encryption) and limit printing or copying.
How to use it
- Open “Protect PDF” and pick the file.
- Type the password to open it and tick what people may do with it.
- Tap “Protect PDF” and download the encrypted PDF.
Your files never leave your device
ToGoOven runs “Protect PDF” in your browser, with code that runs on your device. The file is not uploaded to any server: nobody else sees it and it is not stored in someone else’s cloud.
If your device is slow or the file is very large, Premium lets you choose the ToGoOven server instead: only when you ask, with your permission for each job, and the file is deleted when it is done.
Frequently asked questions
Which encryption does it use?
AES-256, the strongest the PDF format supports. Any current PDF reader opens it.
What if I forget the password?
ToGoOven does not store it anywhere, so it cannot recover it. Keep it somewhere safe.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No, unless you ask. “Protect PDF” runs in your browser; with Premium you can pick the ToGoOven server for a heavy file, which asks for your permission before sending it and deletes it when done.
Is it free?
Yes, and with no watermark. The free plan shows ads, kept apart and unable to see your files. Premium removes the ads, works offline and accepts larger files.
Does it work without internet?
With Premium, yes: the tools keep working offline. On the free plan you need a connection to open the app, although the file is still processed on your device.
